Sebastián Ferreira joins Houston Dynamo - Club record signing arrives from Club Libertad

It is a new club record signing. On Tuesday, Major League Soccer side Houston Dynamo announced the signing of Paraguayan forward Sebastián Ferreira. The 23-year-old striker arrives from Paraguayan side Club Libertad in a deal worth $4.3 million, more than twice the club's previous record deal (overview). Ferreira has signed a Designated Player (DP) deal until 2025 with a club option for the 2026 season. 

“Sebastian is a high-potential attacker with an impressive scoring record in South America and Liga MX," general manager Pat Onstad said in a club statement. "He also possesses the tenacity and selflessness that we are looking for in Houston Dynamo FC players. Our top priority this offseason was to sign a forward who can be a difference-maker and it’s a huge credit to Ted Segal and the rest of the ownership group to provide us the resources to make the largest player acquisition in club history.”

The first big-name signing of the Ted Segal ownership era, Ferreira indeed arrives with an impressive resume. On top of his 34 goals in 74 games for Club Libertad, the 23-year-old has also managed 16 goals and four assists for Monarcas Morelia before the club relocated to Mazatlán.
