CF Montreal is finalizing a deal to sign Uruguayan forward Matías Cóccaro from Huracán, sources briefed on the deal tell The Athletic.
CL Merlo first reported a deal was agreed and adds that Montreal will pay a fee around $2 million for the forward.
Cóccaro, 26, has 31 goals and seven assists in 110 appearances for Huracán since joining in the summer of 2022. He had 11 goals and four assists in 47 appearances (3,452 minutes) across all competitions in 2023.
Montréal named Laurent Courtois as head coach this winter and he’ll get to add Cóccaro to an attack led by Mahala Opoku, Ibrahim Sunusi and Jules-Anthony Vilsaint. The club’s leading scorer last season was midfielder Mathieu Choiniere at just five goals on the season. Cóccaro will now be expected to carry the goal-scoring load in 2024 if a deal gets completed.
